I grew up in a small mountain town in Kentucky where friends, neighbors and family cared about and looked after each other. There was always someone to jump in and offer a helping hand if you needed it. My Dad was alone and homeless from 12-16 years of age. He taught me to care about others who had less and to highly value honesty in myself and others. My Mother taught me the joy of lifelong friends. My Grandparents taught me to be a problem solver not a troublemaker (unless it was good trouble).
I ended up following relatives into the medical field and obtained a BSN from Eastern Kentucky University and was sponsored by the March of Dimes to be a member of the inaugural class of the Neonatal Nurse Practitioner Program at Georgetown University. The majority of my working life has been spent caring for critically ill infants and their families. The last few years I was a Case Manager for neonatal and pediatric patients where I took on the insurance companies to ensure that these children got the equipment and services they needed.
I have been involved with Oaks North since my parents moved here in 2001. I moved into the community after their deaths and recently convinced my significant other to buy a house here. I “refreshed” the Architectural and Landscaping Guidelines to bring them into compliance with the law. I have chaired the ARC-Houses committee and been a member of the Condo committee.
I want Oaks North to be all inclusive with something for everyone. I want to help foster that small town sense of community that many of us grew up with. I want there to be open communication between the Board and Members. I want to see many more activities for Members to participate in that are offered during Center operating hours as well as neighborhood projects for everyone. I look forward to an exciting period of growth for the Community Center and its Members.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve you!
