Board Director - Greg Hammond, Vice- President

My wife Pam and I are native San Diegans, and we moved to Oaks North in May of 2009 and live in Chapala. I attended Grossmont College and San Diego State but was drafted into the Army prior to receiving a degree. I served in Vietnam and came home with a purple heart. I spent time in Japan and South Korea recovering from my wounds before my discharge in 1967.

Up on my return to the U.S., I elected to join a union Carpenters Apprenticeship Program and after 2 years was certified as a journeyman carpenter. I was hired by MH Golden, a large general contractor in San Diego, and my first job was working on a 25-story high-rise in downtown San Diego. After topping out the job, I changed employers and was working on a 2nd floor remodel to the Bank of America building in San Diego where I met my wife. She worked in the trust department. We were married in 1970. I worked for 10 years as a carpenter before I transitioned into Construction Management where I worked for 8 years prior to starting my own construction company. I worked for 22 years as a general contractor and retired in 2009 after 40 years in the construction industry. I am most proud of starting my own company with 7 employees and growing it to 6 offices and over 300 employees.

After moving to Oaks North, I joined the Lawn Bowling Club and served the club as its Vice-President for 2 years, and then 4 years as its President. I was asked to be a candidate for the Chapala HOA Board and after being elected, I served as the HOA Vice-President for 2 years and then 4 years as its President. I learned early on that HOAs are governed by a different set of rules and regulations from the private sector and it took some time to understand all the changes.

Pam and I have lived in Oaks North for 16 years and I have enjoyed working on ONCC committees where my construction knowledge has been a benefit. I recently was elected to serve on the ONCC Board as its Vice-President, and I look forward to working with the other board members to keep Oaks North a beautiful place to live with many activities and programs to enjoy.
